Jax Today online had a telling piece recently about Duval's ongoing failure to deal with its high infant and maternal death rates. The rates are above the state and national averages, and consistently higher for women of color. These numbers are an important index to community concern for mothers and children, or the lack thereof, and ought to be on a local website the year round and not just once a year.
I wrote Mark Woods suggesting the TU take over the data set; he said they had no funds available. I'm surprised that the Civic Council hasn't stepped up. Great writing!
So reminiscent of COVID- stop testing, stop reporting, no infections…what’s the problem?! I fear the same thing might be coming on a grander scale with the expected influence over economic indicators such as inflation, jobs, unemployment, CPI, GDP, etc.!
